Denoix is ​​the oldest of the distilleries in Brive-La-Gaillarde, France, dating back to the 19th century. The brand’s history spans five generations that have passed on the secrets of their craft.

Elie Denoix was responsible for several new creations, as well as for the rediscovery of the Moutarde Violette de Brive, but it was from the 14th century onwards that the culinary specialty was made famous by Pope Clement VI, who was born in France, and remembered if the famous purple mustard was made in this region, he asked a mustard maker. He was so successful in his duties that he was named “The Pope’s Great Mustard Maker”.

From then on, the fame of Violette mustard, brewed and sold by various liqueurs and grocers in Brive-la-Gaillarde until the 19th century, became a local tradition.

Currently, Moutarde Violette is exported to several countries where it is recognized as a delicacy of French culinary excellence. The name itself comes from its color. Made from grape must and fine mustard seeds, this mustard is distinguished by a peculiar marriage of sweet and spicy flavors.
