Mulled Wine with Star Anise, Orange and Cinnamon

Mulled wine is especially popular at Christmas time. This recipe is typically popular in Europe, particularly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, under the name Glühwein.

  1. Start by putting the brown sugar in a pan with the juice and zest of an orange.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks and the star anise. Cook over low heat until the sugar melts and turns into syrup, stirring constantly over low heat.
  3. Then add the red wine and leave on medium or low heat without boiling for 20 minutes.
  4. Add the glass of brandy and remove it from the heat. Strain the wine and serve with orange slices.
